Fast rising Nigerian singer, Ewa Cole has filed a N300million lawsuit against veteran Nollywood actress and film producer, Funke Akindele, JJC Skillz and others over an alleged copyright infringement in the use of her songs in Funke Akindele’s film series, ‘She Must Be Obeyed ‘.
According to the petition filed against Funke Akindele in the federal high court in Lagos State, Ewa Cole through her legal representation claimed she has the rights to ‘Opoor’ and
‘Bhad garl which was allegedly reproduced to be used in the film series, ‘She Must Be Obeyed’, without her permission.
Back Story
Sometimes in 2021, Ewa Cole was contracted to produce some tracks to be used for the film series, ‘She Must Be Obeyed’, which she handed to the person in charge after writing and recording the songs with the hope that Funke Akindele and her crew will reach out to her for payment details and recognition.
Unfortunately, she received the sad news that her songs had been rejected and will no longer be used for the film production, only for her to later realize that they had reproduced the song behind her and used for the same film series they said it wouldn’t be used for, within her permission or approval, and with no credit given to her.
